In the article "Case Study: Impact of Digitization on Music Industry in the Recent Times", Prabha Susy Mathew discusses the positive affects that music digitization has had on the current standpoint in India, particularly, as well as the rest of the world. She states that "digitization... has reinvented the working structure for Television, music, book, gaming and film industries" (1), and continues in saying that, "Digitization surely has a high impact on the India’s economic growth" (1).
Mathew's thesis, however, states "The pace with which the information technology has been bringing changes in the past few years has been tremendous, but it is also bringing along some challenges along the way for business particularly for media companies, as a result of online sharing of information among users" (1). She is arguing that digitization has had negative effects in the world. In order to create more exigence in her argument, Mathew uses the logos appeal, mainly using data about increased growth rate in music business in India for her large logos appeal, as well as continuous background information on the topic about the industries of the past in present, in order to logically appeal to her audience. She also touches on how, because of the increase in downloads, and decrease in spending, her homeland India has suffered economically, countless popular websites and industries closing because they simply were not making a profit. The pathetic appeal to her homeland suffering evokes a sense of justice in her audience; it makes the audience feel a need to take action.
Mathew concludes that "Today the world is heading towards the digital era. Though copyright is a prime concern in the digital era, there are several benefits that this era has contributed. Out of the other industries such as films, music, books etc. digitization has not proved much of a benefit to the music industry’s retail sector" (2). In her conclusion, she acknowledges the positive effects of digitization on the world, but still stands by her argument that the negative effects are very extreme and should be looked at more closely.
